GC Columbus house American figurine DSC05699

This is a cuchimilco, a guardian figurine from Peru, belonging to the Chancay culture which flourished from 1200 to 1450.

He is a fine specimen of a ritual figure, with an elaborate headdress, a prominent necklace round his neck, but otherwise naked. However he sports a prominent penis and has two nipples for his breasts and two belly buttons, one on top of the other, while a triangle indicates a prominent bush.

But it is the penis, which gives the sexual interest. It is a short stubby penis, with a pair of balls delineated just beneath it. But the penis itself shows as a prominent knob, with the foreskin bunched up behind it: it is one of the most carefully worked parts of the whole figure.

One feels that if one tried to desecrate the tomb that he was protecting, he would have warned you off with that very solid penis.

This is from the museum in Gran Canaria which celebrates Christopher Columbus, who set out from the Canaries to discover America. In the basement, there is a small collection of the sort of objects that he might have found in America.
