The Romans and their penis
The Romans liked their penis. Whereas to us it is a symbol of shame, something that we should conceal at all cost, to them the penis was something to be proud of. They like to display their penis not only is a symbol of virility, but also as a good luck symbol. On Hadrian’s Wall they are found everywhere. Whenever a section of wall was finished, the soldiers would often carve erect an penis with balls attatched as a good luck symbol. These come from the Senhouse Museum in Maryport on the Cumberland coast, where they were collected from many sites in the 18th and 19th century. There are two types of Roman penis, the pointed penis and the rounded penis, both of which are illustrated here

| This is a good example of a pointy penis, with the foreskin coming down and covering the knob and coming to an end in point.
This is a good example of a Roman soldier’s penis, with two balls attached, one to either side, the Roman soldier’s most formidable weapon |
| This is a good example of a rounded penis, with a separate knob at the end.
Note the oval at the end which is the symbol of a woman’s cunt. The connecting line shows the spunk flowing from the penis to the cunt. Note too the beginning of an inscription to the right which would have revealed the owner of the penis
